My husband and I are about to purchase a 2024 Grand Design Transcend Xplor 240ml. We're new to rv'ing and I want to confirm that our truck can handle this trailer. The trailer weight is 6,300 and our tow capacity is 9,500. Also, would a anti-sway Hitch be worthwhile purchase for us starting out?

imo rear kitchen trailers are not a good idea for a half ton
This trailer weighs more than my Imagine and I am at the max for my Sierra which has a high payload of 1800 lbs

These types of trailers need a lot of tongue weight to compensate for the weight of the fridge and kitchen needs being behind the axles
So if your payload capacity from the sticker on your door is 1500-1600 lbs you likely will be over specs
Will it matter? Only you can decide that

When you mention “sway control” do you mean weight distribution?
Because you truck will require one. Read the label on your receiver. The base weight will be exceeded by a travel trailer
Most quality weight distribution systems have integrated sway control. Sway though can be eliminated by proper loading and proper tongue weight

Good luck

That is the empty weight, what is the gross weight rating? You are near your max weight. You would definitely want a weight distribution hitch.

We've got the same towing capacity on our GM 1500, 9500 lbs with a 5500 lbs truck. The 21BHE that we pull is 5500lbs empty per GD. Scales say that we're running 5500lbs on the trailer axles when we're loaded. Per the scale, we are right at the truck's rear axle ratings when loaded. All in we're 12,000 lbs, 2000 lbs under GVWR, but we've maxed the payload of the rear axle. If your experience is like ours, you're going to be over the axle rating of your truck.
