Traveling with Outside Kitchen Fridge

When traveling, is it ok to have the outside fridge packed? Even though they are AC only, I'm sure they would stay cold for several hours. I'm thinking things like water, soda, beer. Things like that or would I likely find the contents all over the place when I open up the kitchen door since it's just the door seal keeping it closed? I could install a latch or put a bungee around it but I really don't want to do that.
 
Pool noodle might work depending on the space between the fridge door and outdoor kitchen door.

That is a great idea! I use pool noodles to keep the outside kitchen drawers closed when traveling. They tend to open. I use a bungy to tie all the cabinet doors together which keeps them closed but the fridge I wasn't sure about if filled. A childproof door latch is perfect!

Yes that would be OK. I have installed an inverter and automatic switch to the line that the outdoor fridge is on so that it has AC power when we travel. We can't access the indoor fridge without opening the slide so I like to have sandwiches and other things in the outdoor fridge for food stops. It works very well with the inverter.

Thanks for replying. I've been to Kitchener/Waterloo, Ontario. I Attended a conference on Children's Safety Villages several years back at the Waterloo Regional Police Headquarters. Nice town.
 
We freeze our water bottles before placing in the fridge if we have a long drive. It helps in the main fridge so I am sure it would help in our outside on as well

We use ours more as a cooler long drives and have used the frozen water bottles trick. Keeps everything cold for 8-10 hours at least. We keep everything in its place with the tension fridge rods. The fridge door has never come open, but both drawers did (damaged and replaced under warranty 3x) until I installed oil rub bronze rotary latches like these:

We use pool noodles to keep the drawers from opening and so far they have worked well. How are tension rods used to keep the fridge closed?

Sorry, I wasn't clear. We use them inside the fridge to keep everything in its place and from banging against the door.

We tried the pool noodles, too, but one time one of the cam latches stuck on the noodle and we couldn't get the compartment door open for 20 mins. That's a long time to have to wait for a beer in the hot summer Utah desert sun! So, rotary latches solved the beer access problem.

Ok. I understand now. Hopefully I won't have the issue you had with the pool noodles. I took one of the fatter noodles and cut it into 1 foot long pieces and place one between two drawers so I really am using two 1' sections for the three drawers. I haven't noticed them sliding at all so I'll keep my fingers crossed they won't catch a latch and I agree.....20 minutes is far too long to wait for a beer. 5 minutes is too long! ;)
 
We only have a fridge, not a whole kitchen, but we fill the fridge with drinks and get it cold before we leave. Then we wrap a bungee cord around it to keep the door closed. It is cold when we get to our campground. If we need a drink on the road it is easier than going inside and putting the steps down.

What size inverter did you use?
 
I tried the pool noodle but the fridge still opened. I now use duck tape but there are great ideas here and will install a latch. Thanks.
 
We used adhesive velcro. Put the loop sections on the door and side of refer then used a section on hook to keep the door closed while traveling. Also did the tension rods inside to keep everything in place.
