Several RVers shared advice for a newly purchased 2019 Imagine trailer with a non-functioning electric fireplace. The original poster described only hearing a beep when plugging in the unit, despite trying different outlets and remotes. Members with high experience levels noted that replacing the fireplace is often cheaper than a service call, but reminded that electric fireplaces do not heat water systems—only the propane furnace does, which is crucial for full-time Canadian living. The "4... More...

Hello - first day on this site and first post , so apologies if I get this wrong .

I have a fireplace issue and have started this tread in heating , if it was better served to be appliances … again apologies .

I have recently purchased a 2019 2670MK imagine trailer to be my new home. The layout fits me well and it being 4 seasons meets the requirements geographically. The owner I purchased it from extolled the electric fireplaces ability to heat the unit with minimal assistance of the furnace in even an Alberta winter , and while that statement seemed like a possible hyperbole I took him at his word as he was gracious and helpful .

I was somewhat concerned that the fireplace did not operate on my first attempt , but having learned that many items had been disconnected for storage during the sale process , I assumed it would be a matter of simply connecting it to power .

I removed the unit from its housing and noted that it was in fact plugged in , I switched it to another plug and received a triumphant beep for my efforts … sadly the beep appears to be the only thing this unit can muster , no lights or whirling fan , not even a sizzle or pop . Just a lonesome beep when plugged in .

And while I can be handy with some things … reading through a number of fireplace threads that deal with wire tracing and other such things … I’m left with the feeling that I may have to call for professional help , and frankly the particular circumstances that have plagued me of late make that a … challenge …so I am asking of this forum and the many skilled and experience folks here if there is perhaps a simple step I am missing , or an known problem with a documented fix so that I , in my limited scope of skill and patience , may exact a repair or , only if truly needed , should call for service … it also seems that a replacement unit may actually be cheaper that a service call, and if folks here think that is a reasonable approach to this complication I would love the feedback on this as well .

Regardless of having input , if you’ve made it through my tedious post , I wish you well and happy travels; Thanks for reading .

Likely replacing is cheaper but keep in mind the fireplace does nothing to warm the water system in the trailer
Only the propane furnace “can” do that

Now. Are you going to live full time in Canada in this?
The 4 seasons means almost nothing

I assume that after you hear the beep, you are using the remote and/or control buttons to actually turn the unit on and adjust temps???

Thank you for the feedback , yes it seems likely that replacing is cheaper than servicing … I guess I was just hopeful that this was a common issue with an easy fix . And yes , your point regarding the heating of the units water systems is well taken , I know that I will have to be using the propane furnace to maintain a baseline of functional temperature, but I was enamoured with the idea of using the fireplace for “comfortable” heating .

And yes , I will be living full time for all seasons in the unit . I have done some reading through the copious user manuals regading “winterization” and understand that it is a significant undertaking . My water supply lines are instulated and wrapped with electric heat tubing and I’m currently trying to understand how the pump is supposed to be set for the cold. I’m on Vancouver island and the space I’m currently in is very mild and only gets a few weeks of -5 C degree weather , I’m more worried about snow accumulation on the roof of the unit .

So the “4 season” tagline is a misnomer ? That’s quite disappointing…

Yes , I’ll try not to be offended by the inference there 😉 , I did in fact try all the buttons on the unit , and the remote and tried a new battery in the remote. I was hopefully that the answer was something almost as simile as that… like perhaps a hidden reset button of the such .

Is you AC unit turned off, they may work off the same circuit
2250 rk was wired like that way , and you couldn’t have both on at the same time

I have had this issue with my 380flr the electric fire place wouldn’t come on. I read the manual and it said to unplug the unit and use a vacuum to clean around it and all the vent openings then plug back in. It worked. I also realized that I could just switch the breaker off and then switch it back on after a few minutes and it worked. Try that.

I installed a fireplace in our Momentum 25G toy hauler. I ordered an electric fireplace online, built a frame and mantle for it and used power off one of our outlets. We were in Utah and Colorado last fall with temperatures down to 22F degrees and had no issues at all. I do monitor the amps on my iPhone app via our Watch Dog surge protector so as not to trip a breaker. I think a new electric fireplace was a little over $200.00. If I was trouble shooting your fireplace, I'd take it out and plug it into a separate outlet outside of your RV to see if it even works correctly first. That alone will at least let you know if it's a fireplace issue or wiring inside your trailer and then work back from there. Best of luck.

We have the 2020 version of your rig. The fireplace was flaky. Close the cabinet door next to it and it would work, or shut off as indicated by the beep. I pulled it a few times and when I would press on the large block on the circuit board that is zip tied in place, it would again turn on and off. I finally pulled it, took it home, thought I would try to make it more secure. I tried to pull the board and step one was pull the wires that were on spade connectors. The spades of two pulled the connector right off the board. Some solder points were clearly better than others and I tried to improve them. This was in the spring and so far we have not used it but it does seem to keep beeping every time we plug in or use the generator. First time we will need/want it will be in three weeks. Good luck.

If mine continues to be flaky I'm going to get a new one. Saw a sale last year but missed pulling the trigger.

Yeah, our fireplace flashed the dreaded code “88” and so I researched it. Turns out the manufacturer doesn’t actually have any parts or repair manual's for the fireplace (furrion)
So we replaced it with a RecPro, and it was pretty much a direct replacement. It ended up costing about $200 and we’re mostly happy with it.

I'll put in my $0.02. In my Solitude with a Innoflame RV48D80L-1 fireplace, the fireplace's fan stopped running such that the heater would trip on high temperature and put up a E3 error code. I took it apart and there was no appreciable dust (!) for being two years old, and the fan rotated freely.

I found a YouTube video where a guy said that fan blower relays tend to fail. Considering I've been quoted ~$260 to $872.39 + tax and handling fee for a replacement Innoflame, it might be worth it to dust off my soldering skills and try to replace the relay. OTOH, investing in a soldering iron, solder sucker (or wick would be cheaper) would be a pain. I'd be sure to check voltages to see if power is getting to the fan motor before going down that path.

The fireplace heater does did a wonderful job supplementing the propane furnace and is was a heck of a lot cheaper than using propane alone.

Regarding heating the basement when below freezing, with both the propane furnace and the fireplace heater going, the basement around the plumbing averaged around 43F (temperature gun) when it was about 20F outside. Obviously it's a lot warmer in the basement when only the propane furnace is running.

Edit: looks like a similar problem in another thread.

How did you determine whether the RecPro was the correct size? Cabinet measurements? And/or does RecPro say it replaces particular model(s)?
