Use Non-Pressure Reduced Water for Built In Black Tank Flush?

Can I use non-pressure reduced water in my 2022 Reflection 337RLS for the built in black water tank flush? I tried it recently for a short period with much better results than when using pressure reduced water. I just want to make sure it won't hurt any of the internal plumbing. I figured it might not as it's a straight through path. Any thoughts?

I always use regular campground pressure to use the black tank flush. It's a straight through line, so no valves or such to blow. If you have high pressure be aware you can blow apart the vacuum breaker if you turn on the water suddenly, and create a big surge. DAMHIKIJK. :)

What's high? You're vacuum breaker check valve and all of the crimped fittings are your weak points. If the typical reinforced vinyl tube has been crimped to the usual improper fittings, it's even riskier. In factory-delivered form, about 50psi is a high end.

For some reason, I thought I read in the GD manual that came with our trailer to use normal city water pressure to flush the black tank. But I suppose if using a 40lb pressure regulator (for normal city hook up) it should accomplish the same thing.

Do agree that being carefull using CG water pressure is a good idea... along with no sudden pressure surges.

I take off my pressure regulator when I do a black tank flush. I have only been to two places over the years where the amount of pressure was enough for me to leave the regulator on.

FWIW, I just re-read the manual on our 2024 reflection and it states for the tank flush: "Fully open faucet at water supply source
(40 psi minimum). Flush tank until water
appears clear in 4" discharge hose."
So it takes a minimum of 40 psi to flush the tank and it did not say a maximum. I believe the next time I flush the tank, I will not use a regulator.

Thanks!!!! Safe travels!!

I'm with others here that don't use the pressure regulator. I did for the first several months, then one day I forgot to put it on and was surprised at just how much better it did at flushing (dah!). I know it makes sense to limit the pressure to avoid problems with the water line connections and vacuum breaker, but I take my chances...no issues for the past year.

Very much appreciate the feedback Chad; safe travels!!

The black flush piping is open ended, so water pressure has much less effect on it, than it does on the potable water system in your RV that’s a closed system. I have used non-regulated water for the black flush because it works better. Never a problem after years of doing this.

Great feedback and thanks Rabbit; safe travels!!

As others have already all stated, yes you can. The only thing in that line is a check valve that is usually located higher up in the RV. Mine is behind the shower faucet and accessible through a removable panel in the linen closet. Get yourself a little water flow meter and get in the habit of using it when you fill & flush your black tank. I drain and refill with 25-35 gallons of water and drain again... repeating this several times if at a full hookup site.
