Hello everyone, I’m looking for fan vent covers for my 5th wheel. I can’t seem to find any that are tall enough for the max air fan in the kitchen. the motorized lid lifts to a height of about 13” but I can’t find anything taller than 9 3/4” even on the max air site.

Thread moved to General Tech Topics.

Maxxair makes/sells their own vent covers compatible with their fans. I would look for those.

Recommendation: You can create a signature block with your RV and tow vehicle information (see mine below). That way you won't have to repeat that information whenever you post or ask a question - and others won't have to ask. You can create a signature by going to:

Forum Actions (on menu bar) -> Edit Profile -> Edit Signature (under My Settings on the left)

I couldn't either. I got the Maxxair cover, and even though it does not allow lid to open to max height, it works fine.

The motor stops when it hits the cover, no problem, plenty of opening...

I'm not sure about the no problem. After installing my cover the gearbox in the Maxxair fan stripped out. It's cheap pot metal so that could have been the issue, or the pressure from the lid bottoming out against the cover could have been the issue. I seldom use the vent/fan so I've not repaired the gear box, and just manually open the vent if needed. For me, having the external cover is more important than the auto open/close function.

I have the max air vent cover on mine, the one that is appearantly made for it, it still hits. has been doing fine since sept. 2019.
I also don't like the rain sensor, on a recent trip, pouring rain, we couldn't open the vent. maybe there is a way to bypass that.

According to Maxxair, the rain sensor cannot be turned off/defeated. I just looked at my fan and there are no switches on it.

yeah, maybe i look closer and find the rain sensor and disconect it.
another one of those things that make you go HMMMMM

Might be able to disable the rain sensor by covering the 'circuit board traces' that are bridged by water drops with tape or sealant...

I also have the covers on mine, and at the begging of the summer there was a heavy rain fall. Rain going sidewards, the Maxxairs closed automatically, but the vent in the bathroom is a manual one, and a fair amount of rain got inside.

I installed Max air cover cover on my kitchen vent in 2022.. It is held in place with 4 clips on my Solitude.

If you open the vent and go up on the roof you can see the sensor.
It looks like a 1/2" square PC board with interlaced traces. Water bridges the traces and closes the circuit. Cover the sensor with duct tape.
For a more permanent solution you could cover it with silicone or roof caulk.

i have vent covers on all my vents, during rain, i haven't had any rain inside. if it did, i missed it.
thx

I have a 2023 Reflection 303RLS. I went with the “ Maxx Air 00-955003 Smoke Fanmate Cover with Ez Clip Hardware “ for the Maxx Air fan in the kitchen. This is the specific cover that matches up exactly with the fan that GD installed. You just simply clip it into the cover frame and the installation takes less than five minutes. Now when fully extended, the lid may contact the cover but it is minimal and doesn’t hinder the operation in anyway.

I went with a “Maxx Air 00-933069 Original Vent Cover - Black, Super Tough Rain Shield, RV Roof” for the bathroom fan. This cover matches up perfectly with the GD installed fan. The installation took just a little bit longer because I needed to remove some of the self leveling lap sealant that partially covered up the bracket mounting points. But this cover matches up perfectly with the OEM fan hardware and no drilling was required or needed.
