Walkie Talkies for communication when backing in the trailer

Seems very familiar.....
Along with.... ok, right there, now three feet to the left...sigh... as I put the truck back in 'D'.

With us, my wife is my preferred person to be directing me when backing the trailer. After years of doing it we have it down pretty well. WE also have the soon to be gone Furrion backup camera with a mic. I am replacing it with a Christmas present of a New wireless camera system, but without a microphone. A friend has one and the picture is better than my Furrion. THat means Walkie talkies for us, or the phones. As stated earlier, I can hear the phone through my hearing aids, but a lot of places we camp have no service (the grand kids hate that - we love it).

I get my left and right mixed up too much so it will be your side and my side for me and counting down in feet when backing. Tried degrees for arcs and front wheel turns for curving but that never worked.

So for us we are considering a backup camera in-spite of the smaller trailer so DH can see behind as we drive. Will check this one out. Hopefully with that, a few aircraft marshalling hand signals, and the two-ways maybe all of that will work.

Used them for the first time this past week. Before we started, I said JUST say GO, DRIVER SIDE, PASSENGER SIDE, or STOP.
So backing it into the yard, I hear, looking good, looking good, GOOD, GOOD, GOOD. YOU NEED TO STOP! So I was to stop at the first GOOD. JEEZE!
What was I thinking????????????????

That is mainly what I like about it (The watching behind as I drive).

I can see that happening with me. It took a while for her to remember that she had to be where I could see her. Also, with the Furrion camera with the Mic, she needed to be behind the trailer, not forward of the corner of the trailer even little bit. As far as the two ways, she will forget to push the button, and get mixed up on what to say, then it will be "stupid radios, I'm not using them any more".

That's what I like about the rear camera - gives me a rear view mirror to confirm what I am seeing in my side view mirrors. If I'm traveling alone and setting up (like recent trip to Elkhart), it is useful backing into a space. We tried walkie talkies but in crowded campgrounds, it's kind of like having a CB radio since all the kids have them. There's been so much static we rarely use them and rely on phones or hand signals limited to stop and go. At that point, I get out and look.

Accept it. That's about as good as it gets.

We use cell phones now. Before, I would see my wife appear and disappear continously in the rear view mirrors.

Our radios have many channel options with the channel and then the sub-channel. We have only heard someone else once or twice in the 10 years we've been using them. We use a channel/subchannel combination that isn't the preset one. Be sure to read your manual, as many radios have both licensed and unlicensed channels on them. The licensed channels are more powerful, therefore longer range, so not what you want when parking, but maybe other times. The license isn't all that expensive if you are going to need the higher power channels. We've never seen the need, so don't bother.

Jo Ann has a tendency to start saying "a little more, a little more" before I've even put the truck in gear, so when I've gotten out to look and give directions I'll tell her that I will call her when I'm ready to move, then I will just listen. If she notices that the truck isn't moving she should stop talking and listen to my question. Works great now.

We tried with the cell phones, but for some reason, here at home, the message is just garbled. That is why I went with the Radios. Also the radios have a setting so you do not need to "Push to Talk".

I do have a backup camera on the camper, but with the trees in the yard, I need to make sure I have clearance up high on the sides.

I have a backup camera also, but I still want eyes on the ground for things I might miss. I trust my wife more than just the camera.
