Hello all

Noticed this crack today when cleaning the trailer. It is just forward of the bedroom slide. Any thoughts on how serious this is and if I can still tow it?

Contact Grand Design Customer Service about potential abnormal upper deck frame flex for which there is a Technical Service Bulletin covering 2021-2023 Solitudes. I just had mine out at the factory for this check - I didn't have an exterior crack but had some other symptoms. Cracking at that location is specifically called out in the TSB.

I don't have any cracks like that but I have my 2022 378MBS at the dealer right now for TSB on exessive frame flex. Your is one of the signs from what I have heard. On mine it is all within specs but they are in the process of replacing the 3/8 lag bolts with the 1/2 lag bolts per the TSB.

Contact Grand Design customer service as was previously mentioned. They were great to work with for me.

Thread moved to Solitude -> Frame (since that seems to be what this is going to turn out to be).

So I contacted grand design and got a case number. Next step is to take it to my dealer to assess if it is in the frame flex issue. They said needs to go down to Indiana they told me to be fixed.

When I talk to my dealer, they didn’t appear to know anything about this issue and all they said was that they don’t do bodywork but outsource it to someone. So I deliver in the next few weeks to my dealer to see how it goes from there. Grand Design customer service rep was helpful although I did follow up a couple times. They appear to have good systems. I talked to someone they said oh Cassidy is looking after this one and let me put you in her queue and you know within about two minutes I was talking to her so that was really great service supported by good technology

Anyone know how they do the measurements to understand if there is frame flex?

Lippert wants the filon dropped. I just came back from Elkhart factory service for this. GD did not do that with mine but measured the difference in the pin box with weight on and off the front legs. What they are doing as a matter of policy is replacing all the 3/8" lag bolts with 1/2" lag bolts and filling every frame hole (apparently not all were designed to be filled with a lag - this was determined in engineering discussions between GD and LCI on a per chassis basis).

Like ajg617 stated mine was done the same way. They didn't drop the filon but did the same measurement. All of mine were apparently in spec but post 1/2 inch lag bolts they flex was lower. I hope I can see the measurements tomorrow when I pick it up.

I was told mine was in spec as well. I have to say, there was much less pin box flex up and down and side-to-side movement on the way back. I had a spare dash cam recording the pin box movement both ways and compared when I got home. Whatever they did seemed to stabilize the ride over the same route. A lot less creaking with the Goosebox. The only thing I noticed leveled and disconnected over three nights on the way home was some loud cracks occasionally - kind of like a new home settling.

I have watched YouTube videos of the lag bolt replacement. The only ones I have seen fixed are on the passenger side. My crack is on drivers side. Frankly would be relieved if all that was was replacing some lag bolts. Do they do both sides when replacing?

Yes. I was told that is now their policy. They disassembled the bed and trim on my off-door side and replaced all of them. They removed the washer/dryer from the closet and replaced those as well. With the crack in your sidewall, they may look at welds in addition which might mean dropping the filon and potentially removing the nose cap. The extent of that work would be determined upon inspection.

Does anyone know what the acceptable amount or tolerance is for pin box to cab flex when loaded vs unloaded is?
