When thinking of and viewing water filtration systems I am amazed at some of the pricing that is being asked for some of the systems. When I look at these systems I am basically looking at a 2, 3, 4, canister filter system that you purchase and then install the certain type of filters that you want for your system. The more canisters the higher the price. What is received is the number of canisters wanted and a frame to hold that amount of canisters. In most cases the type of filters that you want are purchased by you after purchasing the filter assembly. What I was interested in was a combination of 3 filters that were available as a package and was available for less than $70. Purchasing this as a complete unit from Clear Source was around $400 which makes their 3 canisters and metal frame being offered for the remaining $330. It really has so much more to do with the filter and not the canister. Does anyone know of a source to buy the canisters so as to build their own.

Do a search for threads started by me, I have a mod post that shows what I did and links to the products.

I also have comments on another water filter thread that has more pictures and more links.

A simple google search will find you all the canisters you want. You can fabricate a frame to hang them on out of pvc if you don't want to attach them to the wall.

We used the Beech Lane double canister in our travel trailer. Pretty reasonable compared to the ClearSource and comes with two filters. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07GBZ83HH

For our main and guest houses (water supply is from a spring), I purchase all of our replaceable filter media in case lots from Fresh Water Systems. Due to very high sediment, we go through a lot of filters! https://www.freshwatersystems.com/
We also get our spin down sediment, ice maker and under counter filters from them.

Absolute best on the market, superior to RO, IMO: https://www.berkeywaterfilter.com/
And portable, use it at home, take it on the road and no need to mess with anything. I add one of those standard $35 RV/Marine prefilters, and then keep the Berkey with us. Add the floruide filters if you worry about, as I do.

Note if anyone has one or buys one: The carbon filters can be cleaned up to 100x. If your water flow rate goes down, as it will if you have particulate in the water, then pull them out and simply clean them with a plastic scrub pad or textured sponge.

^^^^ That is what we do. One for the house, one for the camper. The Berkey Black filters remove glyphosate. Since we are on a spring, we don't have the fluoride filters for the home Berkey, but do for the camper Berkey. Only challenge with the camper Berkey is that need to keep the filter media wet otherwise we have to re-prime if its been awhile since we last used it. Not a big deal.

Where do you get your replacement filters for the Beach Lane?

I just use the 10" filters we get from Fresh Water Systems. https://www.freshwatersystems.com/ We typically purchase the NeoPure brand filters. For the Beech Lane, we used a 5 micron sediment filter and a 1 (or maybe it was a 0.5?) micron carbon filter. Can't remember the brand of the carbon filter. We don't use the carbon filters in our home filter systems.

Here is the sediment filter that works in the Beech Lane: https://www.freshwatersystems.com/p...nt-depth-filter-10-mic?variant=39816389755064

And I think this is the carbon filter: https://www.freshwatersystems.com/p...t-reduction-carbon-block-cartridge-0-5-micron

Thanks for the info. The filters are listed as 9 7/8" in length. I assume those are considered 10" and will work?

I'm actually looking for something to use on a home refrigerator ice maker.

Yes, the 9 7/8" work in the 10" filter canisters, including the Beech Lane.

For an inside the fridge water/ice filter, you can search for the OEM filter on FWS's site and cross reference to an off-brand that is still NSF certified and costs about half the price. I think we use Tier 1 branded filters for our fridges. There are also external water line/ice maker carbon-based filters that come with braided stainless steel connector lines. We used those for a fridge when we lived in Davis, CA - our city water tasted like fertilizer before filtering.

I built my own two canister filter system from parts available at Lowes. Definitely not the cheapest place to buy the parts, but they had everything I needed when I was there. I do not have any kind of frame or anything holding the canisters together, just the brass connection between them and it is quite sturdy feeling and stable with no leaks. I set the canisters on the ground near the water source and have a short leader hose going from my pressure regulator down to the canisters then a long hose going to the RV inlet. So far this system works well enough for us.

I have one of what looks like the same canister you are using, and exactly the same regulator/hose setup. I used a piece of 4" PVC and made a sleeve for the canister to sit in, then mounted the PVC to a short piece of aluminum I beam which sets on the ground. I was just looking for a way to protect the canister.

I use a similiar setup on my stick built lake home. But. I use a Big Blue on the first one, and a clear bowl Whirlpool on the second. Both for well water sediment only. The clear bowl gives me a view of the sediment built up on the filter to help with replacement cycles. We quit drinking our well water, and soften it only for appliance usage. Same with our RV water, filter and soften it too, but dont drink. Buy bottled water for drinking and cooking.

IMHO, softening is much more important with a simple inline filter setup. In 15 years of softening, haven't replaced a appliance or valves due to hard water! Before that, about every 5 years depending on use.

If I were to do mine over I'd go for a clear canister for the sediment filter too. If I ever add a 3rd filter I'll do so then or if I need to replace one of the two I have now.

My father lives in South Florida and has well water with a softening system. I've found after being there numerous times that I do not like soft water. I'm probably one of the weird ones in that way I guess.

We dont like to cook with the softened well water either. In our stick built, we bypass the softner and use filtered well water for cooking.

Regarding the Berkey, Wirecutter has a review of it and some other countertop water filters. They don't recommend it.

I appreciate the link to the review ... I read most of them with caution. If I avoided everything that folks threw neggies at I wouldn't own a Ford truck, GD fifth wheel (and pretty much all my clothing!)
