water pump pulsating

Hi all-
This may have already appeared in another thread/post, but trying to go thru 108 pages of plumbing and water posts seems a poor use of time, so, here I go.

When we use the onboard fresh water and pump, the pump pulses and so does the water coming out of the faucet. My first thought was air in the system, but it doesn't "bleed out". This did not happen with our previous 5th wheel by another mfg. We got a steady stream of water and a constant sound from the pump. So, is this a common thing for GD or do I have a pump issue? The 5th wheel is a 2024, bought in April.

as always, appreciate all help/comments.

Cheers,
PapaZ

Pump operation is based on water pressure. If it is a high pressure pump, it may run constantly. If it is low pressure, it will run, then shut off when the preset pressure is reached and start again when the pressure drops. Could be somewhere in between also.

I would say it depends on the pressure that the pump is set for.

We only boondock and rely on our water pump and fresh water supply. For our new Reflection, I decided to try one of these new variable speed controllers on our OEM pump. I have to say it works amazing. We can't tell any longer when our pump is on since it spins up quietly and the RPM is based on the water pressure called for. It also have several safety features built in to ensure you don't have a leak and pump your tank dry. After years of listening to these on-demand pumps, my wife and I love this controller.

You might want to check it out and see if it addresses your issues. It's very highly rated within the RV community from my research.

Just checking—are all faucets off (ie, outdoor shower faucets vs on/off button)?

I have seen this one time before and it ended up being the check valve was dirty and water was going back into the fresh water tank.

I thought there was a leak somewhere but the problem ended up going away on its own.

We had the same problem on our last trip. I realize we're looking at two very different trailers here and the water pumps may not be the same by any means but.....

We have a Shurflo pump and they are on demand pressure adjustable. While running the water, you adjust for a constant run on the pump. Once achieved, you can 'fine tune" a little in either direction but I found that this worked best for us. Turn on the faucet and you got a constant pump run. IIRC our max pump pressure is 50psi. Adjustment on ours was a small allen head screw on the connection end of the pump itself. I found the video below to be helpful in addressing this problem

Again, I don't know if you have a Shurflo model and yes the video is directed at a cleaning device that uses a pump that may or may not be the same model but again, the principle is the same.

Good luck.

Yes, all faucets are off.

Couple of interesting things brought up that I’m going to investigate for our rv.

Yes, some good ideas here. But it’s going to take me to empty out the pass thru, take off the wall by the Nautilas Center to get to the pump…then to see if it’s the Allen wrench adjustment or if there is room to put that controller thingamabob on. Is there way to find out from GD what pump they put in there?? I feel like I’m wandering around in the dark.

You should have a list of installed equipment in your owners packet.

My "installed items" inventory sheet from Grand Design has that information included for the water pump!
What I used to order a replacement (that I didn't actually need)!

It is a Shurflo #4008-101-A65. Based on the tech sheet, I don't know what I'm reading. Is a hi or low pressure pump?

A 3.0 gallon pump is not high pressure. It should run until it hits the preset pressure, then shut off.

Sorry if I'm being obtuse, so it's normal for it to be pulsing?
Thanks!
Not sure. If you don't have a water fixture turned on, it shouldn't run at all. If you are using water, and the pump starts and stops, then yes. It is normal.

I just adjusted my pump,,, a shure flow ,,, a few days ago. I have a new to me 2020 273mk 5ver. All water outlets hot or cold where a slow steady up down pulse.
I watched a few video's and read up on it. It took about 2 full turns on the switch allen head screw to get it perfect at all water outlets. Or perfect enough to not notice it.
I just did a quarter turn clockwise on the screw and went in, turned on water to check, turned off and repeat till it was steady and smooth.

I just had to clear out the center storage bay, remove the screws to access the pump and adjust, then reinstall and replace stuff.
