A member’s Weber Q1000 cooks well on small green propane bottles but produces barely any flame when connected to either an RV quick connect or a larger propane tank. The member reported rebuilding the grill and confirmed that the hose used with the 20-pound tank has no regulator, leaving the grill’s regulator in place.

Several members identified double regulation as the likely issue with the RV quick connect, since those connections are typically already regulated. Members reported...

My Weber grill (Q1000) loves the little green propane bottles. It cooks great. Hook it up to a propane tank or the quick connect on the RV and it barely has a flame. Already rebuilt it so it is not a bad part on the grill.
Any ideas? I use just a straight connect to the propane tank since it has a regulator on the grill.

The RV quick connects are usually already regulated, so if you have one on the grill, you'll have two regulators, and result in a very low flame. You shouldn't have a problem hooking up to a regular propane tank though. Just make sure you get a hose without a regulator, and you should be good.

We got a 5 lb. tank, which is refillable, so we could stop spending money on the "disposable" tanks. Works great.

Like Hoopy said, you are likely double regulated. My Royal Gourmet grill & griddle combo had a regulator attached to the grill itself. I removed that regulator and purchased a 24' LP extension hose (threaded for the grill on one end and quick disconnect on the other). I leave the threaded end attached to the grill and just pop the QD end into the RV aux LP line. Plenty of fire.

The quick connect is already regulated. I have a Charbroil and have a 1 lb to 20 lb converter hose that does not have a regulator and it works fine.

I get the double regulator issue but if I hook a non regulated hose from a 20lbs propane tank to the grill, I get the same result.

You have something else incorrect. You should have no issues using a larger tank. You're missing something.

If it's a low flame on both propane sources it might be time to remove and clean the burner tube out. Could be dust and rust particles clogging the burner up
