What is everyone using for a Welcome mat? We had one and it would fill up with mud so fast. Then we would store it in the RV when we travel and it left a ton of dirt inside.
Coconut is great but again, we camped in some muddy places this year.

We use the Camco RV step covers. They helped with both reducing dirt in the camper, and giving our dog a better (less slick) surface for traction when entering. Then, just a normal door opening sized floor entry rug to trap whats left (water, mud, dirt, rocks, etc.) left over from the step covers so it could be dumped out later.

Nothing will trap everything, but this has reduced our outdoor traffic dirt significantly.... plus, benefited our pooch quite a bit from slipping off the entry stairs.

If you encounter muddy conditions regularly, a shoe scraper (the ones mounted on a based so you don't have to bend over) beside the mat might be useful. I would then opt for a non-porous mat with enough texture to finish getting things off the bottoms of the shoes. Finally, we never wear the shoes inside the rig - we step on a carpet mat just inside the door and take them off. If they're clean enough, they go under the stairs in the shoe cubby; if not, they get cleaned some more.

We dont wear our shoes in the RV either, but socks do a great job of spreading any dirt by the inside steps/door of our 5er throughout the RV anyways.

Its kind of funny and somewhat related, but the next time you go thru an airport TSA station, notice their floors get fairly cleaned by all the sock traffic.

We have a "regular" outdoor door mat at the bottom on the entry steps. And another (nicer looking one) inside the door. Generally, if the site is dirt or small gravel, we'll also put a beach towel down just past the indoor mat.

And - the biggie - actually use each mat for wiping shoes before walking on the floor.

We use 2 mats as well. One is the mat that GD gives away at the rallies. That one is inside, we found it to be a water hog outside then once it fills with water if there are any puddles it will float. I like the rough coconut style for feet wiping outside. They don't float ?

Our GD mat is our outside mat. Yes, it does get waterlogged, but it's so stained and faded that it isn't going to live inside (except when traveling). We sweep it off good, give it a good shake and place it upside down on the inside mat (often with the towel between) when we travel.

We use a piece of green plastic fake grass (Astroturf?) outside on a poly rug. Inside is a carpeted mat.
If the "grass" gets wet/muddy when leaving, I shake it out & toss it in the bed of the truck & throw a chain on it.

We have found the plastic fake grass mat outside to scape, Camco stair wraps, and a small rug type mat inside the door is necessary for us. It’s amazing how much dirt comes in, even if your site is concrete! The plastic fake grass one isn’t cute, but it doesn’t hold water or dirt - it can be stashed inside a outside bin after hosing off if needed.
