What Grill Do You Use? (need recommendations!)

2nd that emotion! Breakfast for 6 including pancakes on cast iron.. no problem.

I use and love out 2 burner camp chef stove. I know it’s not a light weight, easily stored portable grill but man----I sure love cooking on it. We have a flat griddle for any breakfast, Grill box for steaks and the beloved Dutch oven. Our love for camping has a lot to do with making the outdoor meals and cooking on this stove is really enjoyable. IMO the two burner with accessories is not too big for the two of us but you can also cook for groups of 5 or 6. Heck, throw some boneless ribs in the Dutch oven and the veggies grilling on the gril box you can cook for 8 easily

I've heard that a lot and disproved it many times as well. Any top tier steakhouse will disagree too as they all cook on gas and electric, some don't even use a grill but use a frypan and a broiler. Single biggest key to a perfect steak starts the moment the calf is born and goes though to the point the meat is procured.

And yes, big steakhouses will disagree because it would be far to expensive for them to think of having an open hickory fire burning in the kitchen of their downtown restaurant. Most good steakhouses in the country still have a wood pile behind the building that they use, it's probably aided with gas but they have the real smoke flavor.

This all depends on your opinion. Sure, you can get a tender steak that has had a lot of liquid smoke and spices dumped on it so it's tender and tastes good from a crock pot if you want probably. I can grill steaks on a good Ole hickory fire that don't need any seasoning or liquid smoke. I do agree on the point that it all makes the difference in how the beef was raised. My Dad raises 2-3 calves at a time for our family for meat, no growth hormones no uncalled for shots and steroids, just plain beef. That and my BGE has given me the best t-bone steaks I have ever eaten and I have eaten steaks from a lot of high end restaurants. Tender and good flavor that was put into from actual smoke, not some fancy chefs concoction of seasonings. :)

We picked up one of these http://www.campingworld.com/shopping/item/portable-firebowl/49099 because we were looking for something that ran on other-than-propane. Charcoal or wood are both good. This one collapses down into a storage bag and should fit fine in the underside storage.

There used to be a place in Oregon when I lived there called Stanfords. They used a wood-fired grill and their steaks and burgers were incredible (especially the Monterrey Cruise Burger). I'm not sure if they are still around, but the wood does make a difference. I use some soaked chips on our grill from time to time, but use charcoal as the main heat right now. As others have said, start with good meat and you can find many ways to enjoy it.

I've heard that some folks look down on Char-Broil for one reason or another, but I have always had pretty good luck with them.
