What is supplying 12v power?

I need some help being sure I understand why something is working perfectly.

I have a 24v Victron Multiplus II, Victron Lynx Distributor, Victron Orion 24/12 step down converter, and (2) 24v EG4 LIFEPO4 batteries, among other components.

I have the power switch on each battery turned off and I have the main switch turned off (the one on the supply from the battery to the Lynx), so the batteries aren’t supplying any power to anything.

Even without power from the batteries, all of our DC items (lights, furnace, etc.) are working just fine.

So, all of this leads me to two questions:
1. If the batteries are off, where is the 24v DC supply to the Orion coming from? It has to be from the MP II right?
2. If the above is correct, is the MP II providing 24v DC power when we’re on shore power or a generator, thereby saving battery power?

I just want to be sure I understand this properly.

Thanks in advance!

Jeff

The Victron MultiPlus II is a converter/charger/inverter (hence the name). When shore power is supplied to the MP, it converts it to either 12 or 24 volts, depending on the model (24 volts, in your case). The Orion 24-12 converts that 24 volts to 12 volts so things in your trailer operate properly.

If you have solar panels, they also supply power to the mix.

Sounds like your system is very similar to mine.

Your camper doesn't run on 24v DC. At least not unless you converted every 12v appliance, light, etc. to 24v.

Camper's converters or inverted/converters, supply 12v to both the batteries AND the RV's 12v power center. That's in important point. So you don't need batteries when on shore power.

Since you have a 24 solar and battery system, your inverter/converter is supplying 24v to your DC-DC converter. Then your DC-DC converter supplies 12v to your RV through a direct connection to the 12v power distribution panel. And since you have 24v batteries, the inverter/converter supplies the charge voltage to those separately.

When you are NOT ON SHORE power your batteries feed your inverter/convert which, in turn, feeds your 120v circuits and your DC-DC convert which, again, is connected to your campers's 12 power panel.

At least that is my understanding.
