I have a 26' 6659 GVWR bumper pull with spring over tandem axles with stock springs and equalizer, 2 and 3/8" 3.5k Dexter axles.

After 5500 mikes or so I have a bent axle and damaged springs. I discussed with a couple of shops my issue and it was determined the damage could have been related to tight turn maneuvering, crappy BLM roads, a blow out flat incident, possibly faulty components, or some combination.

The trailer had been weighed and was not over weight nor improperly distributed.

Dexter is sending the new 3" 3.5k axles but I'm looking to see if there are better spring and equalizer options. Some places say add shocks, some places say get a fancy equalizer, some places say go to slipper springs, get sumo springs etc. BESIDES stepping up to the next size axles (and parts to go with them), adding airbags, or other radical suspension replacement, what are some good options to improve suspension durability?

I'd like to keep doing what I'm doing with long trips and BLM camping. I'll work on being more careful with road choices and maneuvering.
