Where Are You Going in 2025?

I do not recommend it.. It will take some time to rebuild. Banff is fine, but the forest on the highway between Banff and Jasper is in poor shape. Pick a different travel plan, for now! I recommend.

Have you been to the Oregon Coast Larry?
We are volunteering in some Oregon State Parks this year. We will be going to Washington in later June and attended the Washington GD Rally in Cashmere, WA (4th of July weekend).

Oregon has some great state parks. We have driven the coast of Oregon. But for us it didn't "float our boat". I think we expected to be able to see the ocean from the road like in a lot of California.

We have also driven the costal roads around the Olympic Peninsula. We would do that again.

We'll be in at least 2 OR state parks (Wallowa Lake and Bates). We'll also be at a friend's in Bend for 10 days and will probably visit Paulina Lake (again) and stay there for a few nights.

yep. We dropped Jasper and a good bit of the area west of there. So just going to pop in at Eastport and visit Fort Steel and Townsend before dropping south again.

About 1/3 of the Oregon Coast highway is right next to the ocean. The south coast is more sandy beaches and the northern 1/3 is rock cliffs.
This is in north 1/2 at Seal Rock.

Bates SP is no hookups and no cell coverage.

If you go through John Day, Oregon; stop at Kam Wah Chung. ( Kam Wah Chung State Heritage Site - Oregon State Parks ) It's a very interesting time capsule.
We will be near Paulina in early June I think.

We let Banff early one year because of smoke from the fires. Beside it being pretty smelly you couldn't see much because of the heavy smoke haze.

We were thinking of going to Jasper this year but since the fires we didn't think it would be worth it.
The destruction is pretty terrible. On our way back from AK we drove through the area. There was nothing open between Jasper and the Columbia Icefields. Even the roadside pullouts were closed.

Going to be in southern Arizona and Texas this winter. Plans to travel to Washington, Oregon, and Northern California in August/September/October.

We're aware of Bates SP limits. We wanted to stay at Clyde Holiday but it is closed for upgrading. It is only a one night stop over between Wallowa and Bend; we're traveling with friends who live in Bend so they picked the stop. We should be OK for one night (batteries and generator if I need it).

Thanks for the tim on Cam Was Chung. We'll check it out.

I have most of this planned and reserved. Need to fill in a few details. Can't make Canadian Provincial Park reservations until mid January..... This travel occurs between mid April and the end of September.

TD- Do you only reserve spots that are refundable in case of equipment breakdowns and delays?
That would be a lot of rescheduling in case of some kind of delay..

This is our plan for 2025. Leaving late March through late Aug. We have done 4-6 week trips this will be our first longer adventure and first out west. Most spots are already reserved.

An impressive trip Larry. We've discovered we like camping better than driving so we tend to stay close to home. We have reserved a few trips to Hampton Beach and longer to the Schoodic Woods Campground in Acadia National Park.

It's practically impossible to reserve only spots that are fully refundable. At least if you want to stay in a particular area or want a decent campground; especially in popular locations. So we just stay aware of what it will cost if we have to change plans or cancel.

When something happens and we have to cancel something during a trip we just pick up the planned trip as pre-scheduled after the delay. Sometimes it's easy, sometimes it takes a lot of calls.

Last year (2024) I had to cancel an entire summer of travel (about 90 days). It cost us about $300 in cancellation fees. Probably 1/2 of that was one campground that only offered a credit toward a future stay. Wouldn't you know I had to pick that place because it was the only place we could get at a particular location. While I likely wouldn't do that again, we do stay at a State Park in AL that only offers a credit; but we go there often so it works out OK.

What bugs me more are the campgrounds that want the whole amount up front. I pay close attention to their cancellation fees.

For us, we understand the risks of reserving. But getting a favored site or campground and knowing that we will get to see places we traveled a long way to see means taking the risk of refund costs. We've chosen to deal with refunds versus the problem of missing out on a location because we didn't plan ahead.

We leave gaps in the reservations to have some buffers in case things change. And usually on our return home (to FL) from the west we don't make any plans and take things day-to-day just calling ahead to a campground so we know we have a place for the night.

Copper Harbor and Isle Royale are only things booked so far. We'll loop Lake Superior to get us home.

Wouldn't it be nice if you could take the RV to Isle Royal. I haven't been there yet but it's high on the list. Enjoy! We did the Superior loop many years ago and it was a great trip.

Thanks. Been there. That stop is to take some friends meeting us in their RV across the Bear Tooth Highway and probably explore Red Lodge. We’ve been across that pass a few times; it never gets old.
We will be doing the Beartooth late june also !

Haven't finalized where we are going in 2025. Maybe reschedule our Michigan UP and Canada excursion up north around Lake Superior again
We're also planning a trip around Lake Superior this summer. We've never done it. Any tips? This trip is part of an 8 month odyssey. We sold the bricks 'n sticks in November and are wondering around until the new one is built.

Plans on going from WA to see the Noah's Ark in Williamstown, KY.

You can purchase a combo ticket that also includes the Creation Museum, which is about 40 minutes up the road closer to Cincinnati. Both are worthwhile visits in my opinion.
Oh yeah, I will do a search and get the address, thank you also do you know of any camp ground around there a nice one that we can stay at?
