Hi folks,
The wife and I are looking to go to Myrtle Beach in mid-April of 2025. The choice of campgrounds is either Myrtle Beach State Park or Huntington State Park in Myrtle Beach SC. Anyone have any recommendations on which of the two is the better one. Or, is there a private campground even better?
Thanks for any and all help!
Steve

IF I recall correctly Myrtle beach SP is in the line of the airport and will get low fling planes now and then. We visited to check it out and had the fun of a low flyer...LOUD!!!
This was about 10 yrs ago but I'm sure the flight paths haven't changed much

Depends on what your looking for. Both parks are very busy, We enjoy Myrtle beach state park as it is closer to the action, yes it is in the flight path of the airport, but the flights stop at around 9pm and start around 7am.

Huntington beach is less than 10 miles south of Myrtle beach state park. Less traffic in and out, maybe, less aircraft noise, yes. The beaches are similar, surf fishing is probably better at huntington, at least I had better luck.

We enjoy both and typically it boils down to where we can get a campsite on the dates we want rather than an actual preference

We stayed at Bucksport Marina. Won't do that one again. Got infested with little ants. Many permanent residents.

Marcy & Gary, we used to stay in a hotel at Myrtle within the flight paths of the airport. After a while it became white noise until you had a jet screaming on a low profile. We also had the confines of a building vs. a 5th wheel. Thanks for the info! We are planning a mid-April trip next year and Myrtle will be 5 days of that trip.

We stay at Myrtle Beach Travel Park as it is quieter than say Ocean Lakes. We visited both MB State Park and Huntington earlier this year to look for different types of shells. Both parks were nice. Didn't drive through the campgrounds as they were pretty busy. Both seemed pretty wooded. Walking to be beach was possible but seemed a little far. Didn't do it so don't know for sure. Huntington had more wildlife with alligators in the entrance ponds and saw minks out on the jetty. Neither park has a pool if that is important.
If you are going to just spend time on the beach, a place like MB Travel Park might be a better place as the beach is right there. Plus there is a pool too. Both state parks have nature trails if that is important.

We like Huntington Beach State park. Nice campgtound and beach, close to Brookstone Gardens and Atalaya, plenty of wildlife including a few gators, and away from the hustle and bustle of Myrtle Beach.

We love Brookgreen Garden, we spent 2 days walking around enjoying the art , gardens and the river

April is a perfect time at Ocean Lakes. Never go in the summer! Crazy!!!! April-May is perfect. Just there this past April for 10 days, very quiet. Weekend warriors at every campground and no different here.

I can't speak for the State Parks because I wasn't impressed with either of them so we went to Myrtle Beach Travel Park instead. It's right on the beach, indoor pool, outdoor pool, lazy river, and not too expensive. Nice little breakfast restaurant on site and different activities during the week. Check it out and I think you'll be impressed.

The proximity to Brookgreen Gardens makes Huntington Beach State Park our favorite. The park is home to Atalaya, the mansion built by Archer and Anna Hyatt Huntington, the creators of Brookgreen Gardens. There is a bike trail that runs north to Murrels Inlet and south to Litchfield, near Pawley's Island. The beachfront in the park is undeveloped with very little light pollution. Night sky's are spectacular. It's not a mechanical playground, but it's very relaxing.

MB State Park has turned into a semi-slum. Huntington State Park is a really nice park.

Brookgreen gardens is great. We spent 2 or 3 days walking around in there. The mansion was interesting also. We spent a week at myrtle beach and Brookgreen gardens was the highlight of the trip.
