A member asked whether a tire manufacturer would cover travel trailer damage after two West Lake tires failed about 40 miles apart on a single-axle Imagine Aim 15BH, damaging the underbelly, skirting and gray/black tank drains. The tires were reportedly about 3½ years old, kept covered when parked and checked regularly for inflation; the member had already spent $450 on roadside service and a replacement spare and anticipated several thousand dollars in repairs, with a $500 insurance...

Anyone out there had any luck getting a tire manufacturer to cover damage to an TT caused by tire delamination? I had two explode on opposite sides of my Imagine Aim 15BH (I single axel) yesterday about 40 miles apart. These tires are about 3-1/2 years old, always kept covered when not in use and inflation pressure always checked monthly plus pre trip. Insurance has a $500 deductible, of course. Already had to pay $450 for roadside service call and a spare tire (my original spare was already on the TT from the first blowout). I’m hoping Progressive will cover what will be several thousand dollars in damages. Now I’m anxious about ever towing on this junk sold by some manufacturers (West Lake in my case).

Your insurance company will be in best position to recover damages. I hope you saved the blown out carcasses for them to use in their claim.

Thanks for the reply. I’m gearing up for a fight. I’m filing complaints with the CPSC and BBB. I have the tires (pics included with damages) notice the incident destroyed the coroplast, damaged the skirting on both sides and took out the grey/black drains. I am blessed with a good dealer (a rare thing theses days) great people. They are going to assist me with the process.

In the closeup pic of one of the blown tires, am I seeing sidewall cracking / dry rot above the date code? I have much experience with trailer tire blowouts, especially on trailers that I infrequently use on my farm. I've seen them dry out / crack on the side walls and between the tread after only a year or two of sitting outside and rarely being used. My bad if that is not what I'm seeing but it sure looks like it.

In any case, that whole situation sucks and I hope you can get your rig repaired quickly and as painlessly as possible.

Its doubtful that the tire manufacturer will pay but progressive did pay for mine at over $1000.
