Winegard Gateway 4G LTE WiFi Router for Solitude

Morning: I leave in Canada & travel to Florida in winter. Purchased our Solitude last year and looking for advice on the factory installed Winegard Gateway 4G LTE WiFi Router.

I went to my dealership here in Ontario to find more info & purchase the router & I was surprised when told we don't sell them & to the best of knowledge No custermers have purchased this.

Any suggestions or comments would be very help

It is not bad to set up, if you know anything about computers, at all.

It works well for us, as I can set my wife's devices to connect to it, automatically, saving me the headache of configuring every single device to use the Wi-Fi at a new campground.

Program them all, once, to talk to the router, jump on the Winegard app on the phone or iPad and set IT for the new Wi-Fi and that's it.

Quite handy!
 
another silly questions as I'm not much of a Tech Guy.

Does it have any improvement for the TV stations?

Do you purchase a usage package?

It doesn't have anything to do with local TV stations.

It is strictly a Wi-Fi/Cell Network internet access router.


The Wi-Fi is free, as it merely taps into the Campground Wi-Fi.

If there is no campground Wi-Fi, you will have to use the Cellular Phone Network - if you can get a signal.


You can either buy a data package from Winegard (FreedomGO) or connect through your usual cell phone provider, as long as it is Verizon, AT&T or T-Mobile.

The SIM that comes with it is for the Winegard service.


I had to order a different SIM for T-Mobile.

I called T-Mobile, they sent me a pre-configured SIM and all I had to do was swap the SIM chips in the router and I was online with no extra charges, as I have an unlimited data plan.

I purchased a Wifi Ranger Osprey, which is owned now by Winegard. The router seems to work just fine, it got way better reviews than the Winegard Gateway 1000. The Osprey came with the FreedomGo sim card so I decided to give that a try. I clicked on the link in the router control panel and purchased a basic plan just to try it out. Tested it and it worked just fine. We recently went out for a week and one of the camps we went to didn't have wifi so I was expecting to use my AT&T FreedomGo service. I logged into the router and activated the cell service and it seemed to work for a minute then stopped. Never worked again the entire trip. I also could not use my cell phone as a hot spot because I only had 1-bar, even camp employees complained of the cell service.

When I got home I logged into my account on the Winegard FreedomGo site to see if there was something wrong with my account but there was no information. I tried to chat with their customer service but they don't have chat any more apparently as the link has been removed. So I was forced to call them. They claim that I used all of the bandwidth I had purchased and the error message I got when trying to use the service; "unable to register with carrier" means that my account was blocked for this billing cycle for using up my bandwidth. I really would have appreciated to have known this earlier.

The only thing I can figure is that when we pulled out onto the road, the router rolled over to cell service, and the entire drive up our phones remained connected via wifi to the router on the trailer. So the map and directions we were getting was via the wifi router using FreedomGo, and not via our Verizon cell service. Now I know that when traveling I need to turn off the router to prevent this. I guess that is why you go on a shakeout cruise, to shakeout the bugs!
 
Thanks for the update. If we were on the road more I'd be looking at that Osprey router, it sounds pretty good. In my last TT, I had a WifiRanger router that after updating the firmware worked quite well. I've missed it in my Reflection. And yes, it's surprising how fast one can go through cellular data if one is used to unlimited wifi at home (don't ask me how I know).

I have Verizon cell phones so I logged into my account and tried to order a SIM Card from Verizon but they said that my router was not compatible with their service. Yet I've seen several posts on this board saying that people put Verizon cards in and they work. I went to the AT&T web site who have an "unlimited" data SIM for $50 a month but after 16GB they throttle you to 1.5MBPS. I would burn through that in 1-2 days.

Is T-Mobile any better? Does anyone know how to buy a Verizon card that will work?
